The Friends of the Chinese American Museum is currently seeking
applications for the following position:
POSITION: Museum Educator
LOCATION: Chinese American Museum
425 North Los Angeles Street
Los Angeles, CA 90012
(located at El Pueblo de Los Angeles Historical Monument)
TYPE: Full-time
START DATE: Immediate; position open until

JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Museum Educator will develop, implement, and manage the
Museum Education Program, including the ongoing Family History
Scrapbook Program; develop exhibit-based curriculum for classroom
use; develop in-gallery education guides and interactives;
manage Docent Training Program; develop and conduct educational
workshops for students; develop and conduct workshops for
teachers; coordinate and conduct guided Museum tours; assist
in the development of new Museum exhibits; and assist in education
grants development. The applicant is also expected to work
closely with other CAM staff in daily and program-based administrative
responsibilities.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

Develop, implement, and manage the Museum
Education Program

Develop exhibit-based curriculum (aligned
with California Content Standards) for classroom use
-
Develop in-gallery education guides and
interactives for temporary and permanent exhibits
-
Coordinate, schedule and conduct guided
tours of the Museum
-
Manage Docent Training Program (including
recruiting new volunteer Docents, enhancing Docent training
materials, coordinating and conducting Docent training,
and scheduling Docents for guided tours)
-
Establish and maintain relationships and
collaborations with schools, educational organizations,
and school districts
-
Develop and conduct educational workshops
for students
-
Develop and conduct workshops for teachers
(including offering salary-point workshops)
-
Assist in the educational enhancement and
development of CAM exhibitions
-
Assist in the research, development and
implementation of education grants
-
Collaborate with other staff members in
daily and program-based administrative responsibilities
-
Minimum of Bachelors Degree,
emphasis in education a plus
- Demonstrated interest in Chinese American
history/culture/arts a plus
-
Excellent communication
and public speaking skills
-
Experience working with
people of diverse backgrounds (i.e., ethnicity, age, educational
background, English-speaking ability, etc.)
-
Experience working with
school-aged children
- Curriculum development experience
- Volunteer management and supervision experience
a plus
- Familiarity with computers and MS Office
a must

Familiarity with Adobe Photoshop,
Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Pagemaker, QuarkXPress a plus
- Ability to multi-task, work alone or in
a team setting

Bilingual in Spanish and/or
Chinese highly desirable but not required
SALARY: Salary starting from $35,000; competitive
salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The Chinese American Museum’s (CAM’s) mission
is to foster a deeper understanding and appreciation of America’s
diverse heritage through preserving, documenting, and sharing
the history, rich cultural legacy and continuing contributions
of Chinese Americans. CAM opened in December 2003 and is part
of the El Pueblo de Los Angeles Historical Monument (El Pueblo),
located in downtown Los Angeles. CAM is a joint project supported
by the City of Los Angeles through the El Pueblo department
and by the Friends of the Chinese American Museum (FCAM).
