Guided School Tours

CAM offers docent-led tours to learners of all levels. Guided tours must be scheduled at least three (3) weeks in advance and are subject to docent schedule and availability. A typical tour will last approximately 55 minutes. The maximum capacity for guided tours is thirty (30) people.  For student groups, there must be at least one adult chaperone for every ten (10) students who are eighth grade and under. If student group exceed the maximum capacity for a guided tour, groups may tour in shifts of thirty (30) people or less.

Due to COVID-19 and for the safety of our staff and guests, we are now limiting groups to 15 or less people for each guided tour.

There is no cost for guided tours, but donations are always welcome.

The guided tours are free but donations are highly encouraged. We suggest the following donation amounts per person:

Museum Entrance

CAM is located at El Pueblo de Los Angeles Historical Monument. The front entrance is located on 425 N. Los Angeles St. through the gated courtyard.

Parking

School and charter busses can park for free in the bus lane during your visit. This is located on Main Street between Arcadia and Cesar Chavez, in the lane furthest to the right. Other vehicles can park in one of the four pay public parking lots at El Pueblo de Los Angeles Historical Monument. The nearest lot is El Pueblo Lot 2 on 615 N. Museum Policies and Rules

Cancellation Policy: CAM reserves the right to cancel a tour if a group arrives more than 15 minutes late.  Please notify the front desk at (213) 485-8567 if your group is expected to run late due to traffic or other unforeseen circumstances. If you need to cancel your tour, please contact tours@camla.org as soon as possible.

Oversized Bags Policy: CAM does not have the capacity to securely check bags. Since the museum has limited space, please leave large backpacks and belongings at school or in your school bus/vehicle to facilitate easier movement while touring the museum.

Please review museum the top 5 museum rules BEFORE your visit to CAM:

  1. No food (including gum) or drinks allowed in the museum;
  2. No flash photography allowed in the museum;
  3. No running or loud talking;
  4. All children must be accompanied and supervised by an adult chaperone;
  5. Please do not touch the exhibits or artwork, except where it is indicated for you to do so.

CAM School Transportation Fund

Every year, 5,000 students and educators visit the Chinese American Museum (CAM) to participate in tours through the CAM School Transportation Fund. The CAM School Transportation Fund provides subsidized transportation for students and educators from schools and nonprofit organizations who are in need of financial assistance for transportation costs. Subsidized transportation is available on a limited, and first come, first served basis. For more information on the program, please visit www.camla.org/bussing.

Self-Guided Tours

Self-guided tours are welcome at the Museum. However, groups should take advantage of the guided tours for an enhanced learning experience. Due to occupancy limits and security, CAM cannot accommodate unguided tours of more than thirty (30) people.
