Volunteers play an integral part in the development of the Chinese American Museum (CAM). By donating your time, services, and creativity to various projects, activities, and events, you actively contribute to the overall growth and success of CAM and its mission. CAM offers a wide assortment of volunteer opportunities year-round, including: exhibit preparation and de-installation; event planning and preparations; public outreach; arts and crafts workshops; translation and transcribing services; gallery sitting; general mailing; and much more! Our ever-growing CAMmunity of volunteers are comprised of dedicated, spirited individuals of diverse age groups, professions, and experiences who want to contribute to the enrichment of their community and self through service-based philanthropy.

CAM’s humble beginnings started simply with a group of volunteers guided by a collective vision to cultivate public awareness, understanding, and appreciation for the more than 150 years of Chinese American history in the United States and the greater Los Angeles area. As we now march onward to museum expansion, we will continue to rely on the generosity and commitment of present and future volunteers to carry us into the next exciting chapter of CAM’s history. Help grow CAM’s future by becoming a volunteer!

Get Your School Involved!

CAM recognizes the value of today’s youth and young adults as a quality resource in helping to build a positive community. For this reason, the CAMpus Partnership Program was developed as a school-based partnership program to help various clubs and organizations from middle schools, high schools, and colleges begin and/or continue their service, commitment, and involvement with the community. CAM regularly hosts and participates in a variety of public programs and events that require assistance from a robust source of volunteers. Group service with CAM is great way to serve that need, while also helping student-volunteers foster teamwork, leadership, and cultural-educational development.

Currently, CAM has cultivated rewarding partnerships with the following clubs/organizations:

  • Chinatown Service Center’s Youth Program
  • San Gabriel High School’s National Honor Society
  • Cal State LA’s Accounting Society
  • Cal State LA’s Beta Alpha Psi
  • Bravo High School’s California Scholarship Federation
  • Bravo High School’s National Honor Society
  • Mendez High School’s Mandarin Program
